Alarm bells ring over Kaleshwaram project after a few pillars of Medigadda barrage sink

A pillar of the Medigadda bridge in Telangana, part of the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme, sank due to heavy inflows, causing traffic disruptions between Telangana and Maharashtra. The bridge suffered damage to pillars 19, 20, and 21, with suspicions of sabotage due to a loud sound before the collapse. The Telangana government has lodged a police complaint and initiated an investigation. The irrigation department has released water downstream to prevent further damage. Experts have been called in for repairs.
